What finally made fluid and electrolyte patterns feel less random?

I am trying to make fluid and electrolyte patterns more systematic. The framework I am testing focuses on what the body is losing, retaining, or unable to regulate and the assessment findings that follow. My biggest issue has been studying isolated lab values without the organ function or clinical story. What has helped you turn this into a repeatable decision instead of another list to memorize?

The most useful starting point is what the body is losing, retaining, or unable to regulate and the assessment findings that follow. If that is not clear, slow down before comparing the answer choices.

I would keep the practice narrow: predict the direction of the change before checking the reference range. That gives you something observable to review after the set.

A common trap is studying isolated lab values without the organ function or clinical story. Naming that pattern before practice can make it easier to catch in the moment.

Try explaining the decision out loud in one sentence. The explanation should connect directly to what the body is losing, retaining, or unable to regulate and the assessment findings that follow.

I would bring this to RN review with one example where the framework worked and one where it still felt ambiguous.
